Many years ago I was taught that God has a primary will or plan for every believer’s life, which included everything from occupation, marital status, the precise person I should marry, and the exact role I should fill in the Body of Christ. This teaching went on to say that if I, as an individual believer, failed to find and walk out this ‘primary will’ then I would be left with a “secondary will” which may still be good, but not the best. I accepted this concept as truth and lived under the limitations and condemnation that came with it until very recently. In this teaching we will carefully examine scripture to see if it supports the existence of a ‘primary will’ of God.

I love this teaching. It is so comforting that we don’t have to live in guilt or fear that God will abandon us. What stood out most was your point about pursuing life with Jesus Christ. Psalm 139:1-9 is so beautiful, no matter what mistakes we make or where we go, God is there.
Hi, Gary, I love this teaching about God’s primary will for our lives. I can definitely relate to your comments about the body of Christ and where we find truth and grow closer in our communion with God. Getting back to the simple truth of pursuing life with Christ was what I learned to do as well, with the patient help of our Heavenly Father who loves us and never abandons us. Psalm 139:1-9 show just how far God pursues us in His love for us. It’s sad, and heartbreaking that people live in condemnation and fear of losing God’s blessing and help. A humorous thought occurred to me, that, rather than being a compass, God’s will is like the G.P.S. when we lose our way. The keyword for me is trust, that no matter what decisions and mistakes we make, God walks with us and is so close He knows our thoughts and our ways.
