Throughout the scriptures, especially the Hebrew scriptures, we see a surprising pattern: those whom God called to be prophets often entered that role reluctantly—even resisting at first.
Moses argued with God at the burning bush. Jeremiah thought his youth made him unfit. Isaiah confessed he was “a man of unclean lips.” Again and again, prophets expressed why they felt unworthy or unqualified. Yet, once they obeyed, their lives and voices became instruments through which God carried out some of His most powerful and glorious works.
Some questions that are answered: Why does the Bible emphasize this reluctance? What were the common messages prophets delivered? And what traits consistently defined them?
