No. Scripture says nothing about smoking tobacco, so we cannot say it is a sin. The Word does encourage us to take good care of our bodies so that we can live a long life and thus do more for God. Everyone knows that smoking tobacco is harmful to one’s health, and that too much secondhand smoke harms others in the vicinity of the fire. It can also be dangerous, as evidenced by the number of people who have burned up themselves (and others) in their homes. Add to that the fact that most cigarettes cost money that could be put to a better purpose, and you have a litany of logic as to why smoking is not a good idea.
Nicotine is one of the most powerful addictions there is, and very hard to break. Once again, 1 Corinthians 6:12b comes to mind: “…All things are lawful for me, but I will not be mastered by anything.”
