Fruit of D'Vine

Fruit of D'Vine is the name of our monthly newsletter, based upon the biblical truth that each Christian is a “partaker of the divine nature” (2 Pet. 1:4-KJV), and that those who abide in Christ, the Vine, and are thus living truth, will bear godly fruit just as he did.

Are You Letting Your Conscience Be Your Guide?

June 2018

Were I to put a sub-title on this piece, it would be: Think About What You’re Thinking About. You might think it is impossible not to do that, but I’m pretty sure I’m not the Lone Ranger when it comes to "What was I thinking?!” or “Another opportunity to be wrong and I took it.”

What are we thinking, day by day, moment by moment, when things are going great, when everything is hitting the fan, when we are alone, when we are with others, when we abound, and when we are abased? We gotta be aware of the thoughts and images running around in our gray matter, so that we do not fall prey to “stinkin’ thinkin.’” Because thoughts are the seeds of our words and deeds, thinking God’s thoughts is the key to speaking and acting according to His Word.

Signed, Sealed and Delivered

May 2018

One topic that comes up continuously is the simple but profoundly vital question: “How do I know if I am truly saved?” That’s kind of important, right? Imagine how debilitating it would be if you were not TOTALLY POSITIVE that you are saved, sealed, sanctified, and guaranteed everlasting life in Paradise NO MATTER WHAT you do in this life after you are born again. I assert that such doubt shrouding your heart would basically ruin your Christian life. And yet that is where far too many Christians are today, way down deep in their hearts.

Although he seldom emphasizes Romans 10:9-10, the Moody professor answers this critical question by rightly stating that God promises that if one makes Jesus his Lord he is guaranteed salvation—and God doesn’t lie. And, he adds, if one is really saved, his life will evidence the fruit of the spirit. Not “necess-celery.” You and I know that it takes a split second to forever “be born again of incorruptible seed,” but after that you must be “transformed by the renewing of your mind.” There are countless Christians who have never “put on the mind of Christ,” and whose behavior is thus virtually indistinguishable from non-Christians. The difference is between one’s STANDING as a son of God and his STATE of fellowship with God.

The Death of Death

April 2018

Now how cool, and spiritually ironic, is it that on this year’s calendar, April Fool’s Day and Resurrection Day, aka “Easter,” are the same day! I’d like to think that amplifies to the Devil what a fool he was to have crucified Jesus. Picture it: Saturday Night Fever—demons partying so furiously since Wednesday evening that they hadn’t heard the earthshaking news late that afternoon. Suddenly the power went out on the music, there was a knock at the door, and… “HOLY HUH!!!” The risen Jesus stood at the door and knocked. Then he casually ripped it off its hinges, and said, “Told ya. I’ll be back, and then the party’s over—for good.”

PREVIEW OF COMING ATTRACTION: In next month’s Pentecost FOD, which is primarily about the phenomenal truth that speaking in tongues is our only absolute proof of salvation, I will specifically address the ridiculously time-wasting brouhaha recently taking place among a lot of brethren whom I love. One faction is teaching the hideous lie that a Christian’s behavior can cause God to reject him for everlasting life. This lie is a stench in the nostrils of God, and, as we will see, He says just that in so many words. Despite any ram-a-lam to the contrary, it is most certainly the same lie as salvation by works. It is a slap in the face to our precious Lord Jesus, whose finished work is then apparently not sufficient. Stay tuned.

March 2018

“SPRING FORWARD!” That’s what many of us will do with our clocks this month, but the advent of warmer weather and more sunshine also puts a spring in our step, and maybe even a song in our heart. In our teachings we have often elaborated upon the fact that our glorious Sun represents God’s glorious Son, Jesus Christ, in His celestial message. When I see even a small ray of sunshine coming in a window, etc., I usually say, “Hello.”

Next month, “Easter” falls on April Fool’s Day, so right away I have a bead on where to go with that FOD. Then Pentecost comes in May, and I am totally inspired to write that FOD about the virtually unknown and yet critically indispensable truth that speaking in tongues is a Christian’s only absolute proof that he is forever saved from sin and death. That is, for sure, one of the most important truths you and I have ever been taught. Stay tuned.
